Coming back to campus

UITS Restart Task Force shares return-to-campus guidance, with specifics on remote and flex work

The fall 2021 semester is fast approaching, and with that in mind, the UITS Restart Task Force recently posted its return-to-campus guidance on the UITS HR website.

The document details overall principles for UITS as well as specific questions leaders should consider in assessing remote and flex work.

A remote work arrangement (RWA) request form is now posted on One.IU. All requests should be submitted by July 15, 2021, so that UITS leadership can understand the volume of requests for logistical planning purposes as we return to campus in August. (Note: The RWA app will remain available after July 15 and modifications or new requests can be made after that date.)

In a June 25 email to staff announcing the guidance, Vice President for IT and CIO Rob Lowden wrote, “The COVID-19 pandemic forced us into a situation where nearly all of our staff moved to remote work most of the time. I appreciate your perseverance and patience working remotely over the last year and am pleased to share guidance for fall from the OVPIT/UITS Restart Task Force regarding our workforce of the future preparations.”

He continued, “These policies and procedures have been carefully and thoughtfully considered to focus on balancing the needs of the university with the needs of UITS staff while striving to provide equal opportunities for all and support for mental and physical well-being. I would like to thank the committee and all of you for your contributions and feedback.

“As we transition back to in-person work after more than a year of working remotely, I encourage everyone to offer grace as we all adjust to new routines. Thank you again for your hard work, flexibility, and creativity that have allowed IU to plan for this safe reopening. I’m looking forward to seeing you soon,” he said.
